(look: 4 | nose: 5 | mouth: 4.5 | taste: 4.5 | drink: 5)

NOTES:

Pours dark brownish amber into a tulip with some sediment and a 1.5 finger tan head.

Nose has hints of vanilla, wood, dark fruit (plum, grape, fig), brown sugar.

Mouthfeel is medium to full bodied with medium to high carbonation. Slightly prickly and smooth.

Taste is sweet with sugar and dark fruit, lots of grape and plum. A slight hoppy bitterness with a strong, tasty malt backbone. An oaky woodiness throughout.

Overall this beer is a force to be reckoned with. Had this a few months ago at a bar in Brooklyn and was blown away at the time. Just as good on a second bottle. An amazingly tasty Belgian Strong Dark Ale, hitting all the right notes and going down way too smooth for 9.5% ABV. One of my favorites - will definitely continue to seek this out as a staple of the style.
