Pours dark black with a nice 1.5-2 finger coffee/tan head. Nice lacing.
Nose is roasted malts, espresso, some peanut and a slight chocolaty sweetness at the end.
Full bodied, low to medium carbonation. Creamy and oily.
Smokey roasted malt. Smokey. Decent amount of hop bitterness. Sugary sweet in the middle. Finishes dry with a complex mix of alcohol warmth, sugary sweetness, and a smokey bitterness lingering on the tongue.
Drinkability is not great. The lingering smokey bitterness is kind of rough.
Overall a halfway decent imperial stout, though some of that smoke and bitterness and the extreme alcohol content can wack you over the head. A definite sipper. I wouldn't pass this up if offered, but I wouldn't seek it out either.
